Astana, Kazakhstan is the host city for the 2017 world's fair, the Astana Expo 2017. The theme of the Astana Expo is "Future Energy". Expo 2017 is expected to bring more than 5 million visitors to Astana, making it the largest tourist event in the history of Central Asia. More than 100 countries have committed to having country pavillions where innovations and ideas will be showcased.

AS+GG’s design was selected as the winner to build the National Pavilion of Kazakhstan. The international competition that featured 105 entries from all over the world including Coop Himmelb(l)au, Zaha Hadid Architects, GMP International, Massimiliano, Studio Pei-Zhu, UNStudio, Snohetta, HOK, Isozaki, Aoki & Associates, and Safdie Architects. The main building of EXPO is the National Pavilion of Kazakhstan, which is constructed in the form of a sphere with the use of the most advanced technologies.

ASTANA – In the framework of the visit of EXPO 2017 Commissioner Rapil Zhoshybayev, Vestas corporation agreed to take part in the Astana exhibition and show Vestas innovative wind turbines.

On June 10, 2017 the International Specialized Exhibition “Astana EXPO-2017” will open its doors. 100 countries and more than 10 international organizations will take part in the preparation of the pavilions. The main theme of EXPO-2017 is “Energy of the Future”. It reflects the preoccupation of the international community with the problem of energy consumption, which is having an increasing impact on our planet. The main objective of the exhibition is to call for responsibility, to foster a discussion and to develop knowledge enabling people to plan and control energy consumption on our planet and to minimize damage to the environment.

Astana to stage EXPO 2017 "Future Energy" is the capital city of Kazakhstan, straddling the Ishim River in the north of the country. Along the left bank, the ultramodern, 97m-tall Bayterek tower offers panoramic views from its observation deck. The Ak Orda Presidential Palace is topped with a massive blue-and-gold dome. The giant, tentlike Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center houses a shopping mall and indoor beach resort. A city of the future with much to see and experience. 

Kazakhstan is by far the largest of the Central Asian states of the former Soviet Union. It has borders with Russia, China, and the Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Kazakhstan is the world's ninth biggest country by size, and it is more than twice the size of the other Central Asian states combined. Kazakhstan is the richest country in Central Asia, due to its large oil and natural gas reserves.
